Fritz

A pair of Red Raiders picked up National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region honors for the Central Region as announced by the organization Thursday afternoon. Junior first baseman Ellie Bailey was named Second Team All-Region while Junior pitcher Kendall Fritz received Third Team All-Region honors.

The NFCA awarded 381 student-athletes from 152 programs with 2022 NFCA Division I All-Region accolades.

The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third-team selections. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region nominated student-athletes and voted for the teams. All awarded student-athletes now become eligible for the 2022 NFCA Division I All-America squads.

Bailey lands on the second team after pacing the Red Raiders in hits (42), doubles (13) and RBI (31) while finishing second on the team in batting average (.309). Her 16 extra base hits tied for second most on the squad.

The Whitewright, Texas native recorded 11 multi-hit games and eight multi-RBI games on the season including a stretch of seven straight games with an RBI. Her 13 doubles were the most by a Red Raider since Jessica Hartwell posted 14 in 2018 and tied for third most in the Big 12.

Bailey started 48 of 49 games at first base, tallying a team-leading 223 putouts with seven assists for a .979 fielding percentage. The accolades come after Bailey started in just 17 games in 2021 recording 15 hits and 15 RBI in 55 at bats.

Fritz, a right-handed pitcher, earned the first NFCA All-Region honor of her career after leading the Red Raiders in ERA (3.12), wins (12), complete games (12), shutouts (5), innings pitched (121.0) and appearances (30).

The Nevada transfer ranked ninth in the Big 12 in ERA, 10th in opposing batting average, seventh in innings pitched, tied sixth in wins and sixth in fewest walks (28). Her 1.62 walks per seven innings ranks 88th in the NCAA and third in the Big 12.

Fritz tossed the fourth perfect game in program history on March 12 against Texas A&M- Corpus Christi, retiring all 15 batters she faced with three strikeouts in a 9-0 run rule win over the Islanders.

Both Bailey and Fritz are the first Red Raiders since 2019 to receive NFCA All-Region honors.
