LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech men's tennis team defeated No. 45 Northwestern by a score of 4-2 in Evanston, Illinois on Sunday.
 
Tech improved to 10-6 and 2-2 in true road matches on the year with Sunday's victory.
 
The Red Raiders seized the early momentum against the Wildcats, as they took the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. Ilgiz Valiev and Matheus Leite battled their way to a 6-4 victory in a back-and-forth affair and were shortly followed with a 7-6(4) tiebreaking win for the No. 6 ranked duo of Bjorn Thomson and Parker Wynn on court one.
 
In singles play, Tech would continue their scoring with wins by Wynn and Tommy Mylnikov, who both defeated their opponents with second-set tiebreaking victories. With three points on the board, freshman Franco Ribero pulled through with a decisive seventh point of his own, as he won on court six at a 7-5, 7-6(4) clip.
 
UP NEXT
The Red Raiders will return to action on Thursday, March 14th as they travel to Orlando to take on Central Florida. Tech will round out their non-conference stretch with a trip to the Rice Invitational in Houston before beginning their Big 12 schedule on Friday, March 29th in Austin.
