PILA Lubbock highlights how common pregnancy loss is
One in four pregnancies end in loss. This year the Lubbock City Council official recognized October as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.
Suzy Emre, the president and founder of PILA Lubbock, says the recognition is important because people may not know how often infant loss occurs.
"When's someone lived a lot of life you can sit there, and you know, you can say 'well, Mrs. Smith had a great life, she lived 90 years'. Well when you don't see a baby, you can't, it's hard," Emre said. "People don't want to talk about it. A baby they don't realize existed or they know existed but don't really want to acknowledge."
PILA of Lubbock will host its seventh annual memorial service to remember all babies lost to pregnancy or infant loss next week. More information is available here.
